Just gave a talk at the Prague Film School. About understanding what makes a memorable ending, unsatisfying ending, how knowing your beginning can help you know your ending and vice versa, the politics of endings, and how endings can best be represented on the page. Mostly: your ending is you, your statement as an artist. Be careful with it. Some of the films/televsion shows referenced:
Sunset Boulevard
Back to the Future
Casablanca
Spider-Man 2
Some Like it Hot
Ghost World
A History of Violence
The Graduate
Erin Brockovich
Six Shooter
Fight Club
2001 A Space Odyssey
A Clockwork Orange
PSYCHO
Goodfellas
Memento
Waltz With Bashir
Jessica jones
Daredevil (the TV series)
Midnight Cowboy
Form and Void True Detective
To Serve Man Twilight Zone
Fire and Blood Game of Thrones
Baelor Game of Thrones
The Rains of Castamere Game of Thrones
Martha Marcy May Marlene
Tin Toy
Mulholland Drive
The Hurt Locker
The Others
It Follows
Louie – Bully episode
Silence of the Lambs
Being John Malkovich
My short play, Where's the Rest of Me?, is part of a volume, The best of the Strawberry One-Act Play Festival (vol. 8) just released and available on Amazon. Check it out. (Synopsis: A screenwriter wrestles with his relationship to Spalding Gray, his psychiatrist father and the classic movie, King’s Row. A dark and funny journey through movies, monologues and mental illness.)
I completely agree with this reviewer :) --
