Why are eye injuries depicted in movies so disturbing?

A strangely odd/specific thing to be asked to talk about but actually intriguing to think about. In this 10-minute segment, I fumble my way through Oedipus, Freud, Peeping Tom, Psycho, Nope, Clockwork Orange, Game of Thrones, and Alien.
